HAHN Gasfedern sponsors Patagonia Expedition Race

The team participating in the Patagonia Expedition Race this passed February consists of four experienced outdoor and endurance athletes. Thilo and Tom, both of them extreme athletes, had already been part of the HAHN team prior to their Greenland expedition in 2014, where HAHN supported both of them as a sponsor. In addition, Thilo and Tom used cold-resistant HAHN NT gas springs in their aluminum storage boxes to ensure that the lids would open and close reliably in Greenland’s harsh climate. With their desire for performance and their sense of adventure Laura and Andre perfectly complement the team for the Patagonia Expedition Race.

The Patagonia Expedition Race takes place every year in the Chilean part of Patagonia. Mixed teams from around the world, consisting of 4 athletes each, compete in the various disciplines: kayaking, orienteering, mountain biking, trekking and rappelling. The race first started in 2004 and is considered the toughest adventure race in the world.

After a year of preparation, Tom, Thilo, Laura and Andre took up the challenge for the first time on February 16, 2016. The race started at 8 am. After completing the orienteering section and a portion of mountain bike trail, however, the team had to discontinue the race for health reasons. After three days of fighting against adverse weather conditions and pushing their physical limits, the athletes decided to drop out and announce their intention to the race organizers in a satellite phone call.

The challenge remains. So far, no German team has ever completed the Patagonia race.

We would like to thank the team for the interesting reports from the preparation effort and their experience during the race. And now we look forward to our next challenge.
